From Classrooms to Concert Stage: #maKEYSaya Takes Over Keys!

The halls of Keys School Manila were filled with music, laughter, and festive energy as teachers celebrated their special day with a #maKEYSaya Karaoke and Open Mic event last October 4, 2024. The four-hour celebration at the Rotunda, hosted by Teacher Iz Hubalde from the Pre-K Department, Teacher Prince Domingo from the Primary School Department, and Teacher Gabo de Jesus from the Specialist Team, transformed the usually formal academic space into a vibrant entertainment hub where educators showcased their talents and creativity.

The highlight of the day was the much-anticipated costume parade, where teachers channeled their inner Filipino pop culture icons. Teacher Monique Dizon, the Head of the Pre-K Department, stole the show and won top honors with her spot-on portrayal of Vice President Sara Duterte. Other memorable appearances included teachers dressed as gymnast Carlos Yulo, comedienne Boobsie, controversial Filipino citizen Alice Guo, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, social media sensation Yaya Dub, and her beloved three lolas from the longest-running noontime show “Eat Bulaga”.

The community sing-off proved to be another crowd-pleaser from the Pre-K Department, with Teacher Pia Nacion emerging victorious after a series of impressive performances. Teachers took turns at the microphone, turning the Rotunda into their personal concert stage during the Community Karaoke segment, allowing colleagues to see a different side of their usually professional peers.

"This celebration gives us a chance to unwind and connect with each other outside the classroom setting," shared Teacher Kendra Servaña from the Primary School Department. "It's wonderful to see everyone letting loose and having fun together."

The celebration’s most striking part was the heartwarming video messages from students across all levels. Pre-K learners charmed everyone with their innocent and sweet thank-you messages, while Primary School students shared touching stories about their favorite classroom moments. Secondary School students expressed their gratitude through creative presentations, highlighting how their teachers have inspired and shaped their academic journey. These sincere expressions of appreciation set a touching tone for the day's festivities.

Adding to the festive atmosphere were various food carts offering Filipino street food favorites. Teachers enjoyed nostalgic treats like fish balls, popcorn, and siomai and a lot more while cheering on their performing colleagues.

The #maKEYSaya celebration, running from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, successfully achieved its goal of providing teachers with a well-deserved break from their daily responsibilities. The event not only showcased the hidden talents within the faculty but also strengthened the bonds of the Keys School Manila community through shared laughter, music, and celebration.

This reimagining of Teachers' Day proved that educators who guide and inspire students daily can also be stars in their own right when given the stage to shine.
