Carrying the Peace of Lent Into Daily Life

With the end of Lent, we at Keys School Manila are considering how to make peace and reflection a part of our daily lives. The peace that we've worked on can carry on even when we go back to our daily routines.

The quiet of Lent offers something precious: an opportunity to really listen. We can listen to our own minds, know others, and tune in to the wisdom that everyday noise so often obscures. This serves to help us grow spiritually, remain emotionally healthy, and think more clearly.

Simple Ways to Stay Balanced

  1. Start small.
  • Take three slow breaths each morning before reaching for your phone. Also, make an effort to step back for a moment of mindfulness in between classes.
  1. Create peace spaces.
  • Designate a quiet space at home for reflection, just like our "peace corners" in the classroom.
  1. Practice gratitude.
  • Say one thing you're thankful for each day. The practice has enhanced the way we engage in class.
  1. Schedule tech-free time.
  • Take tech breaks to have more meaningful conversations and form closer relationships.
  1. Enjoy nature.
  • Even if the sun is hot in the middle of the day, our school playground has trees that create shade in the late afternoon. Students can rest under the trees to take deep breaths and clear their minds after school.

As the school year comes to an end, remember that brief mindfulness practices can boost your concentration, reduce stress, and enhance innovative problem-solving—abilities critical for academic achievement. Here at Keys, we are incorporating quiet moments into our daily practice and sustaining monthly mindfulness exercises to aid in stress relief and grounding. The silence of Lent reminds us that peace is not just an end; it's a daily practice we can cultivate regardless of the season. Let’s carry forward the stillness and reflection of Lent into every day.
